Carey Haley

Attorney

 

Carey is a 1999 Graduate of Depauw University and a 2002 Graduate of Indiana University McKinney School of Law. She served as an attorney and later as Chief Counsel of the Marion County Department of Child Services in Indianapolis, Indiana from 2002 to 2011 where she both supervised and trained attorneys and handled cases ranging from contested adoptions and termination of parental rights to administrative licensure hearings.

She later served as Chief Counsel at Child Advocates, Inc, a non profit agency for many years. At Child Advocates Carey was responsible for training Guardians Ad Litem and CASAs. She also supervised a team of attorneys and served as an attorney for Guardians Ad Litem in child welfare and custody cases.

Carey is the cofounder of the Child Advocacy Clinic at the IU McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis and served as an adjunct professor for the clinic from 2016 until 2022. Before moving to Georgia to join Swilling Family Law, Carey was a family law attorney at Ruppert & Schaefer in Indianapolis where she represented clients in family law matters including contested and uncontested divorces, custody matters, modification actions, adoptions and guardianships. She has also served as a Guardian Ad Litem for many years. She is the past chair of the Civil Rights of Children Committee of the Indiana State Bar, the past board president of the Indiana Chapter of AFCC and a current board member.

She is the mother to four daughters and her hobbies involve watching them do what they love, hiking, working out, and travel. She enjoys helping clients navigate the many challenges involved in family law cases.
